As an expert, you may be impaired at problem solving. Why? Because you know too much. You know what is possible based on historic solutions. Breakthrough innovation is not about the limitations of the past, but the untested opportunities of the future. Unless you are willing to consider the impractical and impossible, you will not get to the incredible ideas you seek. Creative problem solving requires a suspension of judgment until a variety of ideas can be revealed. To reach innovative ideas, you have to let the question linger unsolved long enough for alternatives to surface. Then you can evaluate and identify the best direction to follow.
